Swing Philosophy

I am a believer that the golf swing needs to fit the individual and be kept as simple as possible.  There are five key positions to a successful golf swing.  How the student gets into these positions is a learning process.  With correct positions and perfect timing, the golf swing can seem an effortless task to perform.

The set up is the most important of the five positions because it works as a foundation to the golf swing.  Seventy-five percent of the swing will correct itself when the body is set up to the ball properly.  The large muscles will then take over in the swing to assist in building torque, or power, with the spinal rotation around the body.  Goals of the takeaway and backswing are to keep the club on plane while building power in the process.

The forward swing allows the body to shift its weight back to the original address position.  The golf club will fall into the slot (loading the shaft) at impact.  This procedure occurs simultaneously; however, some students need to be coached for guidance in this area.  At the impact position, weight has shifted to the forward foot and the weight of the upper body stays behind the ball.  This leads into the finish position in which balance of the swing must be accomplished.  The body will face the target with the club resting high over shoulders in a comfortable position.
The approach to accomplish this philosophy can seem easy with a game plan.

Every student is evaluated in a one hour golf lesson.  The blueprint for the student’s swing is established with short-term and long-term goals.
